Flavored iced tea is so fun to make during the hot summer months. I try to come up with a few interesting summer drink recipes like this Hibiscus Iced Tea recipe every chance I get.

Starbucks isn't the only place you can enjoy these sweet and refreshing summer drink recipes. Skip the expensive coffeehouse and make them at home for pennies.

Organic Dried Hibiscus Flowers

You'll need some organic dried hibiscus flowers to make this Hibiscus Iced Tea recipe. If you have a hibiscus bush growing in your yard you can dry your own hibiscus flowers to use to make the hibiscus simple syrup.

As long as you know the hibiscus plant hasn't been treated with any pesticides or chemicals that is.

Otherwise, the safest route to go is to buy organic hibiscus flowers. You can buy them at most health stores that sell dried herbs. Or you can (affiliate link) order organic dried hibiscus flowers on Amazon.

Hibiscus Simple Syrup

Hibiscus Simple Syrup

Once you have the organic hibiscus flowers then you need to make a hibiscus simple syrup. If you've been following me for a while you know how easy it is to make a simple syrup.

It is called simple syrup for a reason. It is simple to make. Only 3 ingredients are needed. Sugar, water and whatever you want to flavor it with. You can flavor simple syrup with herbs and most fruits.

Sugar-Free Iced Tea Recipes

For those of you who use SPLENDA instead of sugar have no fear. You can still make this recipe.

I have made sugar free flavored iced tea recipes using SPLENDA like this Sugar Free Blackberry Iced Tea recipe.

Use 2 cups water to 1 ½ cups granulated Splenda to make the simple syrup.

Have you ever had the Mexican drink called Jamaica? It's basically your "simple syrup" with the hibiscus flowers. You make it pretty much the same way, but more water...lol... It is normal served pretty sweet, so you do add a lot of sugar! Or, what I've done is use my ice tea maker and instead of putting tea bags, I use the hibiscus flowers... It's very good! You can find this drink when you go to those wonderful little authentic Mexican restaurant, usually it's right next to the horchata. I definitely recommend trying it next time you are in one of those restaurant's!

No, I have never heard of a Jaimica drink. I will have to look for it. I love homemade horchata https://flouronmyface.com/homemade-horchata-recipe/. The Jamaica sounds like a floral aqua fresca. Thanks for sharing. I'll have to look this drink up.
