Enjoy a sweet homemade Tropical Smoothie recipe made with coconut milk for breakfast or an afternoon snack.
All you need are 4 ingredients to make this cool and refreshing smoothie recipe.
When strawberry season comes around I love making this Tropical Smoothie. Every time I have fresh strawberries I will make a smoothie for breakfast.
This recipe was originally shared in March of 2014 but has been updated with new content and photos on January 26, 2022.
Tropical Smoothie recipe ingredients
I used coconut milk for this tropical smoothie recipe. The combination of flavors from the pineapple, strawberries and coconut milk is perfect.
- frozen pineapple: you can use crushed, or pineapple chunks
- coconut milk: canned coconut milk or try making homemade coconut milk
- strawberries: I used whole fresh Florida strawberries because they are in season at the moment. You can also use frozen strawberries.
- ice: use whatever ice cubes you have on hand.
Homemade Tropical Smoothie Directions
Prep: Freeze the pineapple overnight. You could also freeze the strawberries if you like an extra frosty smoothie.
Step 1: Measure your ingredients.
Step 2: Place the coconut milk, ice cubes, frozen pineapple and strawberries in a blender and place the lid on tightly.
Step 3: Blend the smoothie ingredients until thick and smooth. If your blender has a smoothie setting use it. Or you can use the crush ice setting.
Step 4: Divide the smoothie between two tall glasses.
I enjoy a naturally sweetened smoothie without any added sugar.
If you like your smoothies sweet add your sweetener of choice to the blender with the rest of the ingredients.
Smoothie making tips
- frozen fruit: save time by keeping fruit in the freezer to make smoothies.
- freezing fruit: freeze fruit in serving size baggies that are always on hand and ready to add to the blender.
- smoothie sweeteners: If you like a sweet smoothie add 1 or 2 tablespoons of sugar or honey to the ingredients.
- This recipe could be made using coconut milk, almond milk, soy milk or even regular milk.
- thick smoothies: you can add ½ cup of Greek yogurt for an extra thick smoothie.
- ice: Leave the ice in the freezer until you need them so they don't melt and make the smoothie watery.
