In Florida the strawberry season runs from December through April every year.

No matter where you live you should be able to find fresh sweet and juicy Florida strawberries in the produce section.

Fresh strawberries are naturally sweet, healthy and are perfect for no bake dessert recipes like homemade ice cream.

No bake strawberry recipes are a perfect way to use fresh strawberries in a dessert recipe.

Strawberry No Bake Desserts

To celebrate Florida strawberry season, I am sharing a sweet and tart Strawberry Balsamic Ice Cream recipe.

Florida Strawberries are perfect for all types of no bake dessert recipes like homemade ice cream or no bake strawberry pies.

Strawberry Balsamic recipes

I am absolutely obsessed with strawberry balsamic recipes this winter.

A few weeks ago, I shared this Strawberry Balsamic Chicken recipe with a Strawberry and Spinach Salad.

The sweet and tart flavors of fresh Florida strawberries with balsamic vinegar and chicken is amazing.

Not long after that I shared the Homemade Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing that topped the Strawberry and Spinach Salad.

Talk about amazing. Serve those two recipes together and you can't go wrong.

Now imagine finishing off those two-delicious strawberry balsamic recipes with this homemade Strawberry Balsamic Ice Cream for dessert!

Homemade Strawberry Balsamic Ice Cream Recipe in a pan on the table with fresh strawberries in a vintage tea cup

How To Make Strawberry Balsamic Ice Cream

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh ripe strawberries, washed, cap removed and cut in half
  • ¾ cup dark brown sugar
  • ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 5 egg yolks
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ¾ cup milk
  • 2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract (I used my homemade vanilla extract)
  • Ice Cream Maker

Make the strawberry sauce

  1. In a medium sauce pan bring to a boil and then simmer the Florida strawberries, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar and cinnamon until slightly thickened about 10 to fifteen minutes.
  2. Remove the sauce pan from the heat, pour the strawberry balsamic sauce into a container or a bowl and allow to cool to room temperature.
  3. Refrigerate with the ice cream base follow the directions below in step 6.

Directions

  1. In a heavy bottomed medium size sauce pan whisk the egg yolks and sugar together until they become a pale yellow.
  2. Add the milk, heavy cream and vanilla extract to the sauce pan and whisk until combined.
  3. Heat on medium until it comes to a boil while continually whisking to prevent scorching.
  4. Slightly reduce the heat and continue to whisk the ice cream custard until it thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon. Once you can run a finger down the back of the coated spoon and leave a trail the custard is done.
  5. Remove the sauce pan from the heat, place the ice cream custard in a container or bowl and allow to cool to room temperature.
  6. Once room temperature cover tightly and chill in the refrigerator along with the balsamic strawberry sauce until well chilled, at least 4 to 5 hours or overnight.
  7. Once the ice cream custard has been chilled churn the ice cream custard in an ice cream maker following the manufacturer's directions.
  8. After the ice cream has been churned scoop half the vanilla ice cream into a lidded container. Spread half the strawberry balsamic sauce over the top of the ice cream.
  9. Scoop the remaining ice cream into the container then spread the remaining strawberry balsamic sauce over the top of the ice cream.
  10. With a knife swirl the strawberry balsamic sauce into the ice cream. Cover the container with a tight-fitting lid and freeze over night before serving.
  11. Makes 1 ½ quarts of Strawberry Balsamic Ice Cream.
  12. Serve with fresh strawberries or alternately you can double the ingredients for the Strawberry Balsamic Sauce and reserve half to use as ice cream topping.
