How To Make Homemade Vanilla Coffee Syrup

Homemade Vanilla Coffee Syrup is a delicious way to sweeten your favorite coffee drinks at home.

With 3 simple ingredients it only takes 15 minutes to make.

I love iced coffee and drink more iced coffee than I drink hot coffee.

When I am craving a little sweeter coffee flavor I like to make homemade vanilla syrup to sweeten my iced coffee.

This recipe was originally published on September 9th, 2015 but has been updated September 19th, 2021 with new photos and info.

It is so easy to make and only takes a couple of minutes to make.

If you love making coffee style drinks at home it is very eat to make quick diy coffee syrups just like Starbucks.

Cold Brewed Coffee

I also brew my own cold-brewed iced coffee at home.

It's very easy to do.

During the Fall, I love to make my favorite pumpkin spiced cold-brewed iced coffee concentrate with my homemade Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamer.

For those Starbucks fans out there you can easily make your own vanilla flavored coffee drinks at home once you have made a batch of this Homemade Vanilla Coffee Syrup.

This way you can get your fix any time instead of making a run to Starbucks you'll have all the iced coffee drink ingredients right there in the refrigerator.

Vanilla Syrup Ingredients

All you need are three ingredients to make a vanilla simple syrup.

  • granulated sugar
  • water
  • fresh plump vanilla beans, split and scraped

Directions how to make vanilla syrup

Follow these easy step by step directions to make this easy homemade coffee syrup.

Prep: Split and scrape the seeds from the vanilla pods.

Step 1: Place the water, sugar and vanilla beans into a small saucepan.

Step 2: Slowly heat and bring to a boil. Stirring occasionally until sugar dissolves.

Step 3: Boil for 2 minutes. Lower the heat and simmer 15 minutes.

Step 4: Remove the pan from heat and cool to room temperature.

Step 5: Remove vanilla bean pods from the pan. Transfer the syrup to a bottle or container with a cover.

Step 6: Store the homemade syrup in a glass bottle or container in the refrigerator until needed.

Vanilla syrup will last 2-3 weeks refrigerated.

How long is vanilla syrup good for?

Homemade vanilla syrup will last for two to three weeks when refrigerated. Occasionally check the vanilla syrup to make sure no mold has developed. Discard the syrup if you notice any mold or discoloration.

How to store homemade vanilla syrup?

Homemade vanilla syrup for coffee should be stored in an air tight container in the refrigerator.

  • Fresh plump vanilla beans will give the best vanilla flavor.
  • You can use white granulated sugar or turbano sugar.
  • To make a sugar free vanilla syrup you can use a stevia or other sugar free sweetener as long as the substitution measurements are the same. If the sweetener conversion to sugar is 1 to 1.
  • Vanilla syrup made with vanilla beans should be refrigerated.
  • Homemade vanilla syrup can be used to flavor iced coffee, hot coffee, lattes, sodas, and cocktails.

    Thank you for sharing. I love vanilla flavoring in my coffee but dislike all the extra additives that is added.
