Watermelon Granita Recipe

When you're looking for an easy dessert during the hot summer months this Italian ice Watermelon Granita recipe is just the thing to cool you off.

Granita recipes are so easy to make and you can use just about any fruit or juice that you have on hand to flavor this Italian ice recipe.

How To Make Watermelon Granita

Ingredients

  • 4 cups seedless watermelon
  • ½  cup sugar
  • juice of one lemon
  • large glass measuring bowl
  • blender or food processor
  • 9 x 13-inch baking dish

Directions

  1. Cut a small watermelon in half and quarter a small watermelon. Scoop the watermelon flesh from the rind with an ice cream scooper and put it in a large glass measuring bowl or a large bowl until you have 4 cups of watermelon flesh and watermelon juice.
  2. Add the freshly squeezed lemon juice into the bowl with the watermelon pieces. Sprinkle the sugar into the bowl and mix until the sugar has dissolved.
  3. Pour the melon mixture into a blender or food processor.
  4. Pulse to break the watermelon pieces up well and then hit the puree button process until all the pieces of watermelon are liquified.
  5. Pour the sweetened watermelon puree into a glass 9 x 13 baking pan. Cover with plastic wrap.
  6. Place the pan in the freezer.
  7. After one hour take the pan out of the freezer and break up the ice crystals with a fork. Run your fork around the inside edges of the pan also to incorporate those frozen bits in with the rest of the mixture.
  8. Repeat this process every hour until the granita is completely frozen and broken up into ice crystals.

Helpful Tips for making Watermelon Granita Recipe

  •  Taste the watermelon for sweetness. The sweetness of watermelons varies so much. Adjust the amount of sugar accordingly. If the watermelon is sweet enough you can skip the sugar.
  • When you're ready to serve put your granita into a pretty ice cream dish and enjoy.
