These No-Knead Cheesy Slider Buns are the best tasting slider buns you will ever make. They are easy to make in a mixer and you don't even have to knead them. The mixer does all the work for you.
This is the best slider recipe ever. I found it many years ago on the King Arthur Flour website. It was actually a recipe for cheesy hamburger buns.
Instead of making hamburger buns I made sliders. I can't remember if it was suggested in the original bun recipe, comments or I decided to do it on my own. I think it came up in the comments on the King Arthur blog that this recipe made great sliders.
The original recipe was called No-Knead Cheese Burger Buns.
I've made this homemade slider bun recipe so many times over the years. Each time I make it I can't believe I waited so long to make it again.
I make them for my youngest daughter who loves to make ham and cheese sliders with these homemade cheese and onion flavored slider buns.
They are awesome for pulled pork sliders topped off with some homemade coleslaw.
Texas Roadhouse Rolls also make great slider buns. They are great served along a main dish or used to make sandwiches.
Homemade Slider Bun Ingredients
To make homemade slider buns you are going to need basic homemade bread ingredients like flour, yeast, water, an egg and salt. You'll also need onion powder and shredded cheddar cheese.
The cheddar cheese and onion powder is what will add the extra flavors that take these slider buns to another level.
They are so delicious you are going to make this homemade slider bun every chance you can.
They also are great served as dinner rolls. Or you could form them into homemade hamburger buns.
A chicken burger tastes incredible on these cheesy and onion flavored slider buns.
Step by Step Instructions for making Homemade Slider Buns
Put all of the ingredients except the water into the bowl your mixer and turn the mixer on low so it combines the dry ingredients.
NOTE: I have always used my KitchenAid mixer to make this recipe. The KitchenAid can handle beating the thick dough.
I'm not sure if you could use a handheld mixer so proceed with caution if you attempt to do just that.
If your mixer starts to sound like the motor is going to give out turn the mixer off and continue to knead the dough by hand.
When adding the water start with the smaller amount of water if you live in a moist climate. Add more if needed if you live in a dryer climate.
What I will do is warm up the entire amount of water so I have warm water at the ready if I need it.
At different times of the year you may need to adjust the amount of water used in this or any other homemade bread recipe.
While the mixer is running on low slowly begin to pour the warm water into the bowl as it turns the dry ingredients.
Continue to beat the slider bun dough for about 2 minutes or until the dough has come together and starts to look smooth. If is looks a little dry add about 1 tablespoon of warm water as the mixer is beating.
Once the dough is all mixed together scrape it from the sides of the mixing bowl and place it in a well oiled bowl for the first rise.
You could just oil the mixer bowl and use it but I like to use a clean glass bowl so I can clean the mixer bowl and not have to scrub like a maniac to get the hard dry dough off the sides.
If you use a clear glass bowl it is really easy to tell when it has double in size.
Cover with plastic wrap and place in a warm area to rise for about one hour or until doubled in size.
Once the dough has doubled in size you can form slider buns or hamburger buns from the dough. I don't have a hamburger bun pan.
I've heard you don't need one and can free form the buns on a baking sheet if you would like to make hamburger buns.
How to Make Slider Buns
To make the slider buns out of the dough cut the ball of dough in half. Then cut each half piece of dough in half until you have cut all the dough.
I made about 16 slider buns. Take each dough ball and form it into a tight ball by pulling the sides around to the bottom of the dough ball and tucking it in. Place the formed slider bun on a greased cookie sheet.
Loosely cover with the plastic wrap you used on the bowl. Set in a warm spot and let rise until doubled in size, about an hour.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees while the slider buns are rising.
Brush the top of the buns with melted butter and bake for 12-14 minutes until golden brown.
Remove from the oven, brush with more melted butter if desired.
Cool five minutes and move to a cooling rack.

Doesn't using a machine count as kneading?
Flour On My Face
Justin
No the machine does not do the kneading with a mixing blade. Had the dough hook been used instead then that would be considered kneading.
