Say goodbye to dry and tough ribs, and say hello to tender perfection. Get your taste buds ready for a culinary adventure you won't soon forget! This is one of my favorite Instant Pot recipes that I make all year long!

Are you tired of dry country style ribs? Want to learn how to make them so they are moist and tender?

With this recipe it is so easy to make smoky flavored boneless country ribs that cook in about 30 minutes. And they will be so moist and tender you can cut them with a fork.

You will never cook country style ribs any other way! If your tired of tough ribs an electric pressure cooker is the answer to your dreams. You will soon be serving the tenderest ribs you ever made. You can even make Instant Pot Beef Short Ribs perfectly.

Recipe Ingredients

All you need is 4 ingredients to pressure cook ribs and a bottle of your favorite barbecue sauce.

Image of the ingredients needed to pressure cook country style ribs.
  • The pork ribs: I like making boneless country style ribs but you can make this recipe with bone in country style ribs also.
  • Vinegar: apple cider vinegar helps tenderize and adds a delicious flavor.
  • Liquid smoke: Liquid smoke is available in many flavors. My favorite is apple wood liquid smoke.
  • Water
  • Barbecue sauce: Use your favorite barbecue sauce. I am partial to Sonny's Sweet BBQ sauce these days.
  • Pork rub: Pork rub is optional but adds so much flavor. I use my sweet and spicy pork rub. It takes just minutes to mix up and can be used as a pork, chicken or beef rub.

Dry rub for ribs

Seasoning pork with a dry pork rub before cooking adds a delicious sweet, spicy and smoky flavor to the ribs.

Using a dry pork rub is a good marinade for any cut of ribs.

If using a dry rub season the ribs a couple of hours before you plan to cook. I like to rub the ribs with the dry rub the night before so the ribs have a chance to soak up the rub flavoring.

Season the ribs and place them in a zip topped bag in the refrigerator over night.

You can also season the pork ahead of time and freeze them in a freezer bag to have on hand during the summer months. Thaw them overnight in the refrigerator before cooking.

Step by step directions

  • Step 1: Measure the water, apple cider vinegar and liquid smoke and pour into the inner pot of the Instant Pot.
  • Step 2: Place a silicone sling with handle (this handy tool makes moving the cooked ribs from the pressure cooker so much easier) or a metal rack down into the bottom of the pot.
  • Step 3: Arrange the ribs on top of the sling or rack. Snap the handle together if using the silicone sling so it is out of the way of the lid.
  • Step 4: Twist the pressure cooker lid on top and lock it into place. Set the valve to the sealing position.

  • Step 5: Press the manual button and set the time for 15 minutes. Allow the pressure cooker to come to pressure and count down the cooking time.
  • Step 6: Once the ribs have finished pressure cooking and the timer has gone off allow 10 minutes for the pressure to naturally release.
  • Step 7: After 10 minutes of naturally releasing the pressure push the valve to the releasing position. Once the steam has released carefully twist the lid to unlock it. Lift the lid open away from your face.

  • Step 8: Unlock the silicone sling handles and lift the ribs from the pressure cooker. Transfer them to a baking sheet. Use tongs to move the hot ribs from the sling to the baking sheet.

Country style pork ribs are done when they reach an internal temperature of 170 F. degrees. An instant read thermometer is a handy tool to have in the kitchen.

  • Step 9: Brush both sides of the ribs with barbecue sauce. Preheat the broiler on your oven to 500 f. Degrees.
