This Cheddar BBQ Burgers recipe is a delicious and easy burger recipe alternative to pulling out the grill.
These Cheddar BBQ Burgers are one of my family's favorites and I specifically use 2 pounds of beef because I know I'll need that much to feed everyone when they ask for leftovers!
I love the flavor of these BBQ burgers but if you want to take your burger making to a smoky level try this Smoked Burgers recipe from my friend.

Buying Ground Beef in Bulk
We do a lot of burgers around here because we've been getting awesome deals on ground beef lately, so I've been buying 3 lbs at a time.
I use 2 lbs. for burgers and the other 1lb for tacos or something else later on that week, so I've really been able to make it stretch since we are on a budget!
How to add BBQ Flavor to skillet burgers
Adding BBQ sauce to burgers can make them quite moist (and delicious!) but always make sure to put a thumbprint in the middle of the burgers before you cook them.
This helps distribute everything evenly and they stay together a lot better this way, as they're prone to falling apart from the moisture.
I've made these burgers with a few different types of cheeses and I definitely like the sharp cheddar the best, but feel free to experiment with different kinds of cheese.
I like to combine these burgers with a side of sweet potato fries to give it a good balance of sweet and spicy.
I usually but frozen Sweet Potato Fries and bake them as instructed, sprinkle a little cayenne on the top, and top them off with sea salt!
They are my total guilty pleasure, so I pair them with burgers whenever I get the chance.
How to make Cheddar BBQ Burgers
Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef
- ¼ c KC Masterpiece BBQ Sauce (or Sweet Baby Ray's, we love both, really)
- 1 ½ tbsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp Lawry's seasoning salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp sea salt
- ⅔ c shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 tsp liquid smoke (optional)
- sliced cheddar cheese for the top (optional)
Directions
- Mix all ingredients together, making sure to evenly coat all the ground beef with BBQ sauce and mixing the cheddar in evenly so each burger has a similar amount.
- Create patties of your size preference. With 2 lbs, I can usually make 8-10 patties depending on how I size them.
- Cook in a skillet at high heat until cooked to preferred level of doneness or throw on a grill until desired cook. We have done them both in a skillet and on the grill, and they turn out delicious either way!
- Add toppings of your choice and serve on a potato bun with sweet potato fries for a complete meal!
