Whenever we have a family dinner I make sure to make something for everyone to nibble on while dinner is cooking.

Crock Pot Grape Jelly Meatballs appetizers is one of those classic old fashioned appetizer recipes that has been around forever.

Everyone raves about our friend Ambers Crock Pot Meatballs. She was generous enough to let me share the recipe with you.

I did make a little change though. Amber uses frozen meatballs. The only way I have ever eaten meatballs was to make them the way my mother did and that was from scratch.

So for this recipe I made homemade meatballs. Grape Jelly Meatballs are so much better when you start with homemade meatballs.

How to make Crock Pot Meatballs

Homemade Appetizer Meatball Ingredients

  • 1½ pounds ground beef
  • ½ cup Italian Bread Crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

Grape Jelly Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 jar Heinz Chili Sauce
  • 1-32 ounce jar grape jelly
  • 1 envelope Lipton Onion Soup

Directions

  1. Turn the Crockpot on low and add all the Meatball Sauce ingredients. Allow to warm while mixing the meatball ingredients.
  2. In a bowl mix the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Mix well until the crumbs are evenly incorporated with the beef.
  3. Shape 30 small meatballs.
  4. Brown the meatballs in small batches in a skillet over medium high heat..
  5. Remove the browned meatballs from the skillet using a slotted spoon. Drain them well on paper towels.
  6. Add meatballs to the slow cooker. Toss until all the meatballs are covered with the sauce.
  7. Cook on high for 2 hours. Reduce the heat to low and cook for another hour. Cook time will depend on the thickness of the meatballs.
  8. Check the center of a meatball for done-ness. Center should be cooked through. The center should not show any pink. Temperature and Crock Pot size should be taken into consideration. If Meatballs are still pink in the center continue to cook them until done.
