How to make vegetable powders at home to use for smoothies and other recipes.

Vegetable powders are easy to make at home when you are dehydrating the fresh vegetables yourself.

Are you are tired of buying expensive vegetable and fruit powders to add to your morning smoothies? You can make them yourself at home for pennies on the dollar.

You can grind dehydrated strawberries or dehydrated peaches into powder and add to smoothies, ice cream, homemade yogurt.

Adding vegetable powders or fruit powders to your meals is an easy way to add those daily servings. It's also an easy way to get the kids to eat their veggies without a fight.

Ingredients

The only ingredient you need to make spinach powder is dried spinach leaves.

A tall mason jar overflowing with dehydrated spinach leaves.

You can use store bought fresh spinach in bulk or grow spinach in the garden to make the dehydrated spinach you will need and then grind it into powder.

Once you have the homemade vegetable powders on hand you can add it to many of your recipes to add a healthy dose of spinach.

Directions

Making spinach powder is as easy as grinding dried spinach leaves into a fine powder.

A large bowl overflowing with dried spinach leaves.

Step 1: Buy or harvest 2 to 3 pounds of fresh spinach leaves. Place the leaves into a large bowl or plastic container. Fill the container with cold water and repeatedly rinse until the water runs clear.

Drain the leaves well. I like to use a salad spinner to remove all of the water.

Step 2: Dehydrate the spinach following my directions here.

Step 3: Once you have the dried spinach you will need to grind it into a fine powder.

Remove any thick stems from the spinach leaves before packing them into the bowl of a spice grinder.

Step 4: Place the lid on the grinder and pulse until the spinach leaves have been ground into a fine powder.

Pro Tip: Gently tap the spice grinder on the table top to allow the fine powder to settle before removing the lid.

Step 5: Transfer the fine spinach powder to a container with a tight fitting lid. Store the powder in a cool dark cabinet out of direct light.

On another note. Hope you are fairing well and will have water and elec. soon. My house is on Sanibel. I have no idea other than the NOOA post Ian satellite that my house is still standing and it still has a roof. Be safe and my prayers are with you Julia C Hollingsworth

Julia thanks we have minimal damage. I hope your Sanibel home can be repaired. It is pretty bad on the island.
