Homemade Smoked Gouda Alfredo Sauce is so good!

I love the smokey flavor of smoked Gouda cheese. It tastes so good.

It makes a great Instant Pot Gouda Mac & Cheese recipe! And I love to serve it on a Cheese Platter.

I have long been a fan of homemade Alfredo sauce. So I am always coming up with new alfredo sauce flavors to share with you.

One of my best alfredo sauce recipes is my Fettuccine Alfredo sauce with milk. If you thought making homemade Alfredo sauce was too hard I have news for you. It is so easy to make and once you make it I promise you that you will never buy it again.

This smokey bacon Gouda Alfredo recipe starts with my basic homemade Alfredo sauce with milk recipe. You can read a small sample of the comments I get for that alfredo recipe.

Alana said Scrolled all the way to the bottom of the longgggg list of comments just to say. WOW! Delicioussssssssssss, thank you! Used whole wheat flour, was so darn good, ever going back to a jar would be insane!

Padmalaya says I have to say this out loud, this is the best and easiest Alfredo Sauce recipe I’ve come across.

Mary T said My family and I LOVED your Alfredo! This will be my only recipe I use. I love that it is ingredients that I always have in the frig.

Prep

  • Bacon: Fry the bacon until crispy and drain on paper towels before starting the rest of the recipe.
  • Pasta: Cook the pasta, drain well and rinse under cold water and drain again before starting the Alfredo sauce.
  • Cheese: Shred the Smoked Gouda cheese and Parmesan cheese before starting the Alfredo sauce. The shredded cheese needs to be added to the hot Alfredo sauce to melt properly.

Equipment and Tools

  • Cheese Grater: A box grater or a basic cheese grater with a handle
  • Cooking Vessel: I used a large non stick skillet to cook the alfredo sauce and to serve the fettuccine alfredo
  • Pasta Serving Bowls: I love my pasta serving bowls. I found some similar ones on Amazon.
  • Serving pasta: I like to use my kitchen tongs to serve pasta dishes made with long pasta noodles. It makes it so easy to serve without making a big mess.
  • Whisking the sauce: A whisk is needed to make the alfredo sauce. It helps break up the lumps for a smooth and creamy sauce. Use a plastic whisk when cooking in a non stick pan.

Directions

  • Melt the butter over medium high heat in a large skillet.
  • Add the flour, salt and ground pepper to the skillet. Use a whisk to blend the butter into the flour and seasonings until creamy and lump free. Be sure to scrape the inside edges of the pan to blend all of the flour into the butter to prevent lumps.
  • Once combined slowly add about ½ a cup of milk to the pan and quickly whisk the milk into the flour mixture until combined. Once combined pour the remaining milk into the pan and whisk to blend together. Continue to whisk the sauce until it thickens.
  • Once the alfredo sauce has thickened add the shredded Smoked Gouda cheese and shredded Parmasan cheese to the sauce pan. Remove the pan from the heat and whisk until the cheeses have melted into the sauce.
  • Add the chopped bacon bits to the pan and stir until the bacon is evenly distributed through out the alfredo sauce.
  • Add the cooked linguine or Fettuccine pasta to the pan and toss until the pasta is evenly coated with the gouda alfredo sauce.
  • Sprinkle with more bacon bits and fresh or dried parsley to garnish.

I made this with an aged smoked white cheddar instead of Gouda, but boy was this delicious! 10 out of 10 would recommend.
