A few weeks ago I hosted a #DisneySide party for my grandkids. As a last minute party food idea I threw together this Mickey Mouse Popcorn Munch. Popcorn Munch is so easy to make. Popcorn Munch can customize it to match any party theme just by changing the colors of melted chocolate, sprinkles and candy you use.

 How to make Popcorn Munch

Popcorn Munch is so easy to make. You probably have many of the ingredients on hand. Since I do so much baking and cupcake decorating I have a pretty big stash of chocolate chips, candy melts, sprinkles and candy toppings. If you don't have a stash well then you are going to have to stock up on toppings.

Below is the list of toppings I used here but feel free to go wild and use whatever toppings you have on hand. Other than the toppings you will need some popcorn. I used Orville Redenbacher Kettle Corn. I was going for a sweet flavor for the kids. ( yes I am that grandma.......I have no problem jacking the kids up on sweets when it's party time) If you like the salty sweet combo by all means use salted popcorn instead of the Kettle Corn.

Popcorn Munch Topping ideas

  • sprinkles
  • chocolate chips
  • M & M's
  • cookies
  • candy melts

You are also going to need a cookie sheet or two depending on how much Popcorn Munch you need. For the party I popped 3 bags of the popcorn. To get an idea of how much 3 bags of kettle corn plus the toppings make I filled (affiliate link) 10 Disney Sandwich &  Snack bags and a gallon size ziplock bag with this Popcorn Munch recipe.

I have an oversized cookie sheet that I spread all three bags of Kettle Corn on. If you don't have one of these Wilton Jelly Roll & Cookie Sheets you are going to need about 3 regular sized cookie sheets if you are making this recipe.

Or you could make it in batches but it goes so fast when you have all the popcorn spread out on one cookie sheet.

Pop the popcorn and spread it out on whatever cookie sheet you are using. Let the popcorn cool before you start with the toppings or it will take longer for the melted chocolate to harden.

Once the popcorn is cool place the first color of candy melts or chocolate chips into a sandwich bag along with ½ teaspoon of solid shortening. Carefully melt it in the microwave in 10 second intervals, massaging the chocolate/candy coating each time until it is completely melted.

Melting Chocolate Tip

If you read my blog a lot and I hope you do you may have noticed I always suggest Wilton Candy Melts when it comes to making Cake Pops, OREO Cookie Pops, OREO Cookie Balls and anything else I make that requires dipping in melted chocolate. Here is why #1 the Wilton Candy Melts never seize when you melt them in the microwave. #2 They come in a rainbow of colors.

Back to the Mickey Mouse Popcorn Much

Once your first color/flavor of chocolate is melted snip a tiny hole in one corner of the sandwich bag and twist the top so the melted candy is forced to the corner with a hole.

Drizzle the melted candy over the popcorn in a zigzag pattern. Pick one of your toppings. I started with the chocolate chips. Scatter them over the top letting them fall wherever they land.

Now melt the second color of candy melts /chocolate chips repeating the melting and bag instructions above. Repeat all the steps until you are happy.

When you are done with your toppings let the chocolate harden about 30 minutes. Toss with a spatula and bag. This is best made the same day you are planning on serving it. I made mine just about an hour before the party. Popcorn goes stale very quickly. This is one party food I would not make in advance to save time.

  10. Toss and bag or serve in a large bowl.
