 Nutella Brownies Recipe

How to Make Fudgy Brownies

How to make Nutella Brownies

If you love chocolate, thick, soft, chewy, fudgy brownies and Nutella this brownie recipe is going to rock your world!

Homemade brownies are amazing and when you add Nutella to the mix you get a chocolate brownie that is infused with the chocolate hazelnut flavor of Nutella.

These brownies are so moist and fudgy that you will want to bake a tray of these Nutella Brownies every week.

The thick chocolate hazelnut spread adds flavor but will also make the center of the brownies moist and fudgy.

Steps

  1. There are three steps to make this brownie recipe. You will first make the cream cheese filling layer by beating the filling ingredients in one bowl.
  2. You will then sift the dry ingredients for the brownie batter. Sifting helps evenly combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. It helps break up any lumps and makes mixing the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients easier.
  3. You will then layer the Nutella brownie batter, the cream cheese filling and more Nutella for the cream cheese and Nutella swirl on top. Then you will bake the brownies.
  4. After baking the brownies cool the brownies completely before cutting into 12 squares.

Equipment Needed

  • 8 x 8-inch baking pan
  • 3 glass mixing bowls
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons
  • silicone spatula
  • handheld mixer or stand mixer

Prep

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 F. degrees.
  2. Line the 8 x 8-inch pan with parchment paper and set aside.
  3. Use room temperature ingredients. Remove the nutter, cream cheese and egg from the refrigerator an hour before you bake.
  4. The brownies prep time takes only a few minutes to mix the two layers of batter and assemble the brownie ingredients in the baking pan.

Nutella Brownies Filling Ingredients

  • softened cream cheese
  • softened butter
  • granulated sugar
  • large egg
  • all-purpose flour
  • Nutella, divided
Mixing Nutella Brownies batter in a glass bowl

The Ingredients for Nutella Brownies Batter

  • all-purpose flour
  • Cocoa Powder
  • baking powder
  • salt
  • softened butter
  • granulated sugar
  • pure vanilla extract (I used my homemade vanilla extract)
  • large eggs

Instructions

  1. Beat the softened cream cheese, butter, granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, and egg until smooth. Scrape the mixing bowl once, add ½ cup of Nutella and beat until creamy and combined completely. Set aside while making the Nutella brownie batter.

Make the Nutella brownie batter

  1. Sift the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder into a medium-sized bowl and set aside.
  2. In a separate small bowl cream the granulated sugar, 4 tablespoons of softened butter together. Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the bowl beating one egg in at a time.
  3. Fold the flour mixture into the bowl ingredients and mix with a wooden spoon or spatula until combined.
  4. Spread ¾ of the Nutella brownie batter into the bottom of the 8 x 8 baking pan with a small metal spatula. Spread the thick brownie batter into all 4 corners of the baking pan.
  5. Next spread the filling batter over the brownie batter in the baking pan leaving a one-inch border of brownie batter uncovered around the edges of the pan.
  6. Randomly dollop the remaining brownie batter and the remaining ¼ cup of Nutella over the top of the pan. Use the tip of a knife to swirl the brownie batter and Nutella into the filling layer.
  7. Bake the Nutella brownies in a preheated oven for 40 minutes for gooey fudgy Nutella brownies. For cake-like Nutella brownies bake for 50 minutes.
  8. Cool completely before cutting into 12 brownies.

Can You Freeze Nutella Brownies?

  • Yes, you can freeze these Nutella Brownies. Individually wrap each brownie in plastic wrap and tuck the brownies into a ziplock freezer bag.
  • Wrapping the brownies will prevent freezer burn and that weird freezer taste you sometimes get when freezing desserts.

What do we have here?

When I first shared this brownie recipe I shared a little Nutella story about my daughter. I have left it intact and moved it down here for anyone who might be interested in reading it.

Have you ever eaten Nutella? I'll wager most people have. I have seen it in the stores. I have seen it on the web. I have seen it in magazines. And I have seen it on some food blogs. But I have never eaten it. GASP!!Not until a few days ago that is.

My daughter saw the jar stashed in my baking pantry and actually tried to eat it. Can you believe the nerve? I asked her if she had ever eaten it and she said YES!

I was shocked. I had never bought any. Of course, I asked her where and she replied at one of her friend's houses. DUH of course MOM. Yes, I had one of those MOM moments.

My daughter and her friend are so cute. I caught them playing on the webcam. Each one was showing the other one their jar of Nutella. Only her friend had THREE jars and was rubbing it in because I wouldn't let my daughter eat any until I made this recipe.

I know, I am a mean mom. It was pure torture. But hey to be fair I never opened the jar to sneak a taste until I was ready to make my recipe. It was tempting but I knew once I cracked the seal on that baby I was going to have a hard time keeping the kid out of it. So to be safe it stayed sealed up and out of sight in the pantry.

A few days after I read bell' alimento's blog post about playing in a Nutella monthly challenge I found a coupon in my newspaper. Was it fate or what that had that coupon showing up when it did? I'm not sure but I took it as a sign. I ripped that baby out and stuck it in my purse so I would have it the next time I went to the grocery store.

So here it is. I wanted to make a spectacular brownie and I think I did. It turned out nice and moist and very tasty. I had to hide them after a small sampling so I could take some pictures. I figure a recipe is a success if you have to hide it from the family so there is something left for photos.

Next time though I am going to up the amount of Nutella in the cream cheese frosting. If you decide to try my recipe keep that in mind.

The brownie portion of the recipe is a compiling of a couple of basic brownie recipes I found on the internet that I tweaked for my own brownie recipe.

I tried this the other day and LOVED IT! I had some brownie mix and cream cheese and Nutella, so it worked out perfectly so I didn't have to go to the store. I think more Nutella and/or cream cheese is great too! More of either one depending on which flavor you want more of. It was hard for me to decide, so I wound up with a lot! I've added this to my blog so hopefully others will get to enjoy this as much as me! Thanks!

I am loving all these versions of brownies using nutella, have been slowing trying them all. And no not getting sick of them yet. Thanks for yours. And buy your daughter some nutella, peer pressure is so hard, you don't want her to be the only one who doesn't have her own jar, I am kidding.

Nutella plus brownies? It's like a dream come true!

One question: In the recipe, you have "1/4 + 2 tbs Nutella" I'm guessing this is supposed to be a 1/4 cup? Or a 1/4 of the jar?
