As I was making this Crock Pot Caramel Hot Apple Cider recipe, I had a flashback to the past.

As I poured the apple cider into a measuring cup the aroma transported me back to my childhood. Hot apple cider is one of those classic drink recipes that never go out of style.

After I measured out the amount I needed for this recipe I poured a sip into that measuring cup and slurped it down. Have you ever tried drinking from a glass measuring cup? It's not a pretty sight.

It has been 40 years since I've been to New York.

But I swear as I stood in my Florida kitchen at 1 am I could feel the chill of a wind from a long-ago New York winter as I opened the door and went out to the stoop (I call it porch now but back then it was the stoop) and picked up the ice cold gallon bottle of apple cider.

My mother would place a gallon of apple cider out on the porch to chill for our Thanksgiving dinner.

When I was a kid apple cider was a treat that was served every Thanksgiving dinner.

We may have enjoyed it at other times during the winter but for some reason, all I remember is that it was served during our Thanksgiving dinner.

Those other memories have faded but when I inhaled the aroma of apple cider on this night it took me back to a happy holiday memory of my mom as I helped her as we prepared to sit down to our Thanksgiving dinner.

Thanksgiving Apple Cider recipes

I'm not sure if my mother ever made a Hot Apple Cider recipe.

I only remember sipping on a glass of ice cold apple cider on Thanksgiving day. It's funny how those scent memories can hit you out of the blue.

Or you can enjoy it any chilly winter day whenever you think a sweet warm beverage will hit the spot. You can make a hot cider with pears also. Try this Pear Cider recipe also. You can make it in a slow cooker or on the stove.

Start the recipe in the morning or even the night before you plan to go sledding, ice skating or even when you come in from a long and cold snowball fight.
