Sweet and fun heart shaped pink Valentine's Day Spritz Cookies is a fun and unique cookie recipe for those special people in your life.

Decorated Valentine's Day Spritz Cookies

I made these pink ombre heart-shaped Valentines Day Spritz Cookies with the heart-shaped cookie press disc.

When you buy a spritz cookies press most come with a heart-shaped disc.

These Valentine's day cookies would make a pretty Valentines Day cookie bouquet by sticking the decorated cookies to lolli pop stick with a stiff frosting.

Valentine's Day Cookies

Spritz cookies are great to make for Valentine's Day. The heart-shaped cookies are a perfect way to show your sweetheart how much you love them on this special day.

And you still have plenty of time to make these pretty pink glazed almond-flavored spritz cookies for family and friends.

You can make them really special with a couple of bottles of Valentines Day sprinkles and a powdered sugar glaze.

Cookie packaging or serving ideas

Once you make cute holiday cookies you need a cute way to share them. Here are a few ideas on how you can package any holiday cookie to share.

  • You can package the heart-shaped cookies in a Valentine's Day cookie tin or you can make Valentine's Day treat bags and top them with an easy Valentine treat bag topper.
  • Or you can serve them on a red or pink cake stand on a dessert table.
  • I first made and shared these easy Valentines Day treat bags in my Valentines Day Chocolate Dipped Wafer Cookies recipe.

You can find the easy instructions to make these cute treat bags over there.

Making the cookies

Spritz cookies are a perfect cookie that can be made into so many different shapes for any holiday or party where you would like to serve a sweet treat.

The cookie dough is very easy to make. The ingredient list is pretty short and has basic baking ingredients like butter, sugar, flour, vanilla and almond extract for flavoring.

A small amount of cream cheese makes these spritz cookies soft and tender.

If you love easy & amazing recipes join the Flour On My Face Newsletter and get each of my new recipes delivered right to your inbox.

Most of the equipment needed to make the cookies are basic kitchen items you probably already own if you like to bake.

You will need a spritz cookie press to form the cookies into a heart shape. You can pick one up for about $15 or order one online.

To decorate the Valentine heart-shaped cookies you will need pink food coloring, powdered sugar, and sprinkles.

Equipment

  • medium and large mixing bowls
  • handheld mixer or stand mixer
  • aluminum baking sheets
  • Spritz Cookie Press
  • cooling racks
  • thin metal spatula
  • potholders

Valentines Day Spritz Cookies Ingredients

  • unsalted butter
  • cream cheese
  • sugar
  • vanilla extract (I used my homemade vanilla extract)
  • pure almond extract
  • unbleached all-purpose flour
  • food coloring

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl beat the butter and cream cheese together with a handheld mixer or in a stand mixer until creamy.
  2. Add the sugar to the bowl and beat in until fluffy. Add the extracts to the bowl and beat for 2 minutes or until all the cookie ingredients are completely combined.
  3. Add half of the flour to the bowl and using the lowest setting beat the flour into the cookie dough ingredients till just combined. Add the remaining flour to the bowl and beat on low again until all of the ingredients are combined. Scrape the sides of the bowl again then beat for about a minute more.
  4. Divide the dough and add gel food coloring to make ombre pink-colored cookie dough if desired.
  5. Fill the cookie press with dough. Place the heart-shaped metal disc on and twist the end on the cookie press.
  6. Press the spritz cookies out on an aluminum baking pan or cookie sheet.
  7. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool for 5 minutes on a cooling rack. Carefully move the cooled cookies to a cooling rack to finish cooling.
  8. Repeat until all of the cream cheese Spritz cookies have been baked.
  9. See below for directions on how I decorated these cookies.

Recipe FAQ's

How to decorate Spritz cookies?

Bake and cooled spritz cookies can be dipped in a sugar glaze and decorated with sprinkles for a pretty presentation.

Can you make spritz cookie dough ahead of time?

Yes, you can make Spritz cookie dough up to four days ahead of time as long as you refrigerate the cookie dough. You will also need to bring the chilled spritz dough to room temperature before pressing the cookies. Spritz cookie dough should be very soft before pressing.

Can you use parchment paper for spritz cookies?

It is not recommended to bake spritz cookies on parchment paper. The soft spritz cookie dough needs to be pressed right onto a cool cookie sheet or they will not stick and hold their shape.

Cookie Decorating Supplies

There are a few basic cookie decorating supplies you should have on hand to make the sugar glaze and to decorate the cookies.

  • Valentines Day Sprinkles
  • powdered sugar
  • almond extract
  • candy dipping fork
  • medium mixing bowl
  • small mixing bowls
  • flour sifter or large stainless steel strainer
  • metal whisk

How to make and glaze the cookies

The sugar cookie glaze is very easy to make but it is important to get the consistency just right or the glaze will pool off of the cookies instead of covering them with a thin coating.

  1. Sift 2 cups of powdered sugar into a large bowl.
  2. Add ⅛th teaspoon of pure almond extract and 2 tablespoons of cool water to the bowl.
  3. Use a metal whisk to mix the liquids into the powdered sugar until all of the powdered sugar is dissolved. The glaze will be very thick.
  4. Add ½ to 1 teaspoon of water to the bowl at a time whisking after until the glaze is thin enough that it runs off the end of the whisk and sinks back in with just a slight ribbon of glaze resting on the top.
  5. Place one cookie in the bowl at a time allowing the glaze to cover the front of the cookie. Use a fork or a candy dipping fork to flip the cookie over to cover the back.
  6. Lift the cookie up out of the glaze on the thin dipping fork and allow excess glaze to drip off back into the bowl. Place the glazed cookie on a cookie sheet that has been lined with parchment paper. Immediately decorate with Valentine's Day Sprinkles. Leave the decorated cookies undisturbed until the glaze has hardened. About 2 hours.
  7. Store cookies in an airtight container with parchment paper between the layers of cookies to prevent the glaze and sprinkles from being damaged.
