Crème Fraiche Orange Curd Whipped Topping

Homemade Creme Fraiche can be used to make many sweet dessert recipes that are perfect for Spring. Like this Orange Curd Creme Fraiche Whipped Topping that makes a delicious topping for lemon cupcakes and Fairy Angel Cake Bites.

If you are planning a tea party for a little girl who loves fairies this would be perfect served with Fairy Angel Food Cakes. You could make these DIY Woodland Fairy Crowns and celebrate a Fairy Tea Party during the Spring.

How to make Orange or Lemon Curd Creme Fraiche Topping

Ingredients
  • ½ cup homemade Crème Fraiche
  • ¼ cup homemade Orange Curd or Lemon Curd
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Makes ¾ cup topping
Directions
  1. Mix Creme Fraiche and sugar in a bowl until the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Add the orange curd and beat with a mixer on high until thick and creamy, about 2 minutes.
  3. I used the Orange Curd that I recently made but you could substitute any flavor curd you have.

If you’re planning on using this whipped topping recipe to frost cake bites or to frost cupcakes you will need to double or even triple the recipe. It worked perfect as a topping for the Fairy Angel Cake bite I sampled it on.

I don't think this recipe would work well as the frosting between cake layers. It is very delicate and the weight from the top layer would probably push the frosting out the sides of the cake.
You could use orange or lemon curd as a filling instead.
Be sure to refrigerate before serving. It is delicate much like a Meringue Buttercream frosting and will not hold up well to heat.
Adjust the sugar to your own tastes. You could probably even omit the sugar if you’re trying to cut back. The curd is sweet on its own and may be enough of a sweetener for you.
This would also be the perfect whipped topping for any custard or lemon pie or tart.
I love creme fraiche and there are many ways that it can be used in dessert making.
Enjoy!

This looks and sounds wonderful. I think I'm afraid to try it because I know well that what I'll want to do is sit down with the bowl and a spoon hehe
