Southern Crock Pot Pinto Beans are tender and the flavors are perfect. The slow-cooked no soak beans have a thick and rich gravy. Serve them as a side dish with or without cooked white rice.

Dried pinto beans are very easy to cook in a slow cooker. The slow cooker does all of the work for you.

You don't need to soak the beans before cooking them because slow cooking them in broth or water allows the beans to cook to perfection.

The dried pinto beans slowly absorb the liquid and become soft and tender. And because all of the ingredients slow cook for hours the thick sauce is rich in flavor.

Cooking with dried beans

Dried pinto beans are high in fiber and protein. Cooking with dried beans is a great way to add a healthy dose of protein and fiber to your diet.

Dried beans are a very inexpensive staple to have on hand. They last forever in the pantry, are easy to cook, and can be eaten as a meal or added to other recipes like soups and stews.

Southern Pinto Beans

What are southern pinto beans? Southern-style pinto beans are cooked like other southern dried or fresh bean recipe with ham added for flavor.

You will also find onions, dried bay leaf, and sometimes carrots in a southern bean recipe.

A great example is Instant Pot Ham and White Bean Soup or Green Beans and Potatoes.

One of the best well known southern bean recipes is Black Eye Peas, a traditional southern New Years Day recipe.

Traditionally southern bean recipes are cooked with a ham bone. If you don't have a ham bone you can use a thick piece of ham, a ham hock, or even bacon to flavor a pot of dried beans.

Because I know you love crock pot recipes as much as I do head over to my Crock Pot Recipes page where you will find links to all my crock pot recipes. Flour On My Face is the ultimate resource for easy crock pot recipes for busy families! Take a look around!
