The holidays are fast approaching and I am sure you are looking for delicious holiday appetizer recipes like these Holiday Sausage Cups Appetizer recipe to serve at all your holiday get together's.

My favorite part of the holidays is making great food to serve to family and friends. I also like to shop smart when it comes to stocking up on all the ingredients I am going to need for the special recipes I will be making.

My favorite place to shop is at (client link) Sam's Club where I know I will find all the ingredients I need at a great price.

I love buying in bulk and saving money at the same time when I have to feed a crowd. Especially when I am planning to have the family over for a big holiday dinner.

Crescent Sausage Bites Appetizer recipe ia flouronmyface.com

My home is usually the central spot for all of the family gatherings. There are 12 people in my family who I will be cooking for and that doesn't include any last minute guests.

I love shopping at Sam's Club and buying in bulk. Saving money when I am cooking a huge meal during the holiday season helps me save more money for my Christmas gift shopping.

Shopping Sam's Club for the holidays

Since I am really paying attention to how much money I am spending during the holidays I have to make sure I shop wisely. Buying in bulk can work well if you have a plan in place for what to do if you have left overs.

I don't usually have that problem. There usually isn't much left over around my house,  but when there is I love to use the leftovers to make another meal. It's like that second recipe is a freebie!

This Holiday Sausage Cups Appetizer recipe makes 12 good sized appetizers. I made them in a cupcake/muffin pan but if you want little mini appetizers you could also make them in a mini cupcake pan and make a bunch more for a larger crowd.

Easy Holiday Appetizer

This holiday appetizer recipe is packed full of flavor from the Jimmy Dean sausage, butternut squash and the seasonings.

It's a perfect holiday appetizer or it can also be served anytime you want a delicious appetizer that is going to satisfy those hunger pains everyone has while they are waiting for the main meal to be served.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Jimmy Dean Sausage Roll
  • 1 can crescent rolls or a can of flaky biscuits
  • 3 to 3 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
  • ¾ cup diced butternut squash
  • 1 red pepper, diced
  • 1 yellow yellow pepper, diced
  • 1 medium onion, diced or about ¾ cup diced onion
  • ¼ cup finely celery
  • 1 ½ teaspoons poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter

Directions

  1. In a large skillet cook the sausage until cooked through, breaking it into small pieces.
  2. Add the onions, peppers, butternut squash and celery to the skillet.
  3. Add the seasonings to the skillet.
  4. Sauté until the vegetables are tender.
  5. Remove the filling from skillet, place into a bowl and allow to cool.
  6. While the filling is cooling unroll the crescent roll onto a piece of parchment or wax paper without separating the individual rolls.
  7. With a sharp knife cut the sheet into fourths. Next cut each 4th into thirds. Place one piece of the crescent roll into each of wells of a cupcake pan. With your finger seal any seams that may have opened.
  8. Remove 2 ½ cups of the sausage filling from the bowl. Reserve the remaining sausage filling for another recipe, like my Autumn Sausage Shepherd Pie recipe below.
  9. Mix the 2 ½ cups of sausage filling with 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
  10. Using a large ice cream scoop or a tablespoon fill each crescent lined cupcake well with the sausage and cheese filling.
  11. Brush the edges of the crescent roll pieces with the melted butter.
  12. Sprinkle the top of each appetizer with 1 - 2 tablespoons of the remaining cheddar cheese.
  13. Bake in a preheat 350 degree oven for 20 to 30 minutes or until the edges of the crescent rolls are golden brown and the cheese has melted.
  14. Remove from oven and allow to cool to about room temperature before removing from the pan.
  15. Makes 12

Easy Holiday Recipe Hack

When buying in bulk you might be worried about having leftovers. I hate waste and I hate having to try and figure out what to do with the extras.

That usually doesn't usually happen in my house. I know I'll have no problem using all two pounds of a Jimmy Dean Sausage roll that I've bought at my local Sam's Club.

We love Jimmy Dean sausage around here and every two weeks or so I have my kids and all the grand children over for Sunday breakfast and we always make Sausage and Biscuit Gravy for them.
