I made these South of the Border Turkey Burger with a pound of organic ground turkey meat. I loved them.
I have to tell you that these are some of the best turkey burgers I have ever eaten. The turkey burgers were moist and delicious.
I don't eat a lot of beef. I actually prefer a turkey or chicken burger. Turkey is a leaner substitution for a traditional beef burger.
How to make South of the Border Turkey Burgers
These South of the Border Turkey Burgers are packed full of flavor from all the delicious ingredients mixed in with the ground turkey meat. Red sweet Bell Peppers, banana peppers, garlic, onions, fresh yellow corn kernels, black beans and chunks of pepper jack cheese are all ingredients that make me think of Mexican or Tex Mex food.

Southwestern Mayo
Top the South of the Border Turkey Burgers with a tablespoon of this delicious Southwestern flavored Mayo Recipe.
½ cup mayo
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 teaspoon cumin
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
In a small bowl mix ½ cup of mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons ketchup, 1 teaspoon ground cumin, ½ teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon ground black pepper. Refrigerate the mayo while making the turkey burgers so the flavors have a chance to come together.
South of the Border Turkey Burgers
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey
- ½ cup diced onion
- ½ cup diced green and red bell pepper
- ½ cup fresh corn kernels
- ½ cup black beans
- ½ cup diced pepper jack cheese
- 1 hot banana pepper finely diced
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 6 slices pepper jack cheese
Directions
- Mix the first eleven ingredients in a bowl.
- Form 6 large patties.
- Grill or cook in a skillet, until the center of each burger reaches at least 165 degrees F.
- Top each turkey burger with a slice of pepper jack cheese.
- Cook until cheese is melted.
- Serve on a bun with your favorite toppings.
