If using fresh cucumber and dill from the garden harvest early in the morning for the freshest flavors.

Recipe Expert Tips

These recipe tips will help you make a delicious cucumber and dill dip using fresh ingredients.

  • Fresh cucumber: If using a cucumber variety remove the seeds.
  • Dill: Fresh dill is always best for a dill flavored dip recipe but if you don't have any on hand you can use dried dill weed. Taste and adjust the amount when using dried dill.
  • Cream cheese: I like the flavor of full fat cream cheese but you can use a low fat cream cheese.
  • Sour cream: Fresh cucumber will add moisture to the dip so I like to use a thicker sour cream that will help keep this dip very thick.
  • Salt and pepper: You can adjust the salt and pepper if needed after the dip has been refrigerated.

Recipe Substitutions

  • sour cream: you may substitute plain yogurt for the sour cream in the dip recipe.
  • cream cheese: low fat cream cheese can be used.
  • dried dill weed: you may substitute dried dill weed for the fresh dill. Dried dill is much stronger in flavor than fresh dill. Start by adding 1 teaspoon of dried dill weed and taste. Adjust as needed.
