How To Freeze Fresh Papaya
Ingredients
- 1 or more fresh ripe papayas
Directions
- Cut a medium size fresh papaya in half length wise.
- Remove the seeds and scrap any strings from the center.
- Slice each half of the papaya in slices.
- Cut the papaya slices and use a vegetable peeler to remove the skin. Cut the slices into cubes.
- Place the cubed fresh papaya on a cookie sheet and place in the freezer until frozen.
- Place the frozen cubes of papaya into zip lock bags. Squeeze as much air out and seal.
- Or use a FoodSaver Vacuum sealer to seal the papaya in perfectly portioned amounts like I did.
How to Pick a Ripe Papaya?
An unripened papaya's skin will be green where as a a ripe papaya's skin will be yellow and possibly a bit orange depending on the variety of papaya you have purchased or grown. A fresh papaya will yield under the slight pressure of your thumb.
Unripened papaya's will ripen once picked. Set the unripened papaya on the counter. To extend the shelf life of a fresh papaya you can store it in the refrigerator and check it every couple of days. Refrigeration will slow down the ripening process of a fresh papaya.
How To Cut a Fresh Papaya?
The flesh of a ripe papaya is very soft. Place the fresh papaya on a cutting board and with a sharp knife cut down the center length wise.
Using a spoon scoop the seeds and strings from the center of the papaya and discard. Or save them and plant your own papaya tree from the seeds.
