I love making homemade treats for Christmas. This Easy Holiday Fudge recipe is one of those holiday recipes that I like to make every year.

Nestle has made it so easy to whip up a big 1½ pound batch of fudge with their NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Famous Fudge Kit.

The Famous Fudge Kit also makes a great holiday gift. Pick one up for yourself so your family can enjoy it and give one as a gift.

Even though I make it each year I always try to find some way to take it up a notch.

Since we all love fudge because of its rich creamy chocolate flavor I figured adding a layer of chocolate coating could take it to the next level.

And of course I had to add some fun toppings to each piece.

I picked up a NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Famous Fudge Kit at Walmart in the holiday baking area. You can't miss it.

The holiday baking area is in a center aisle near the grocery section.

You can also find many topping ideas there as well because they have a huge selection of nuts and toppings to pick from.

I love how the NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Famous Fudge Kit has all the ingredients (except a couple tablespoons of butter) that you need to make a batch of fudge.

You can make it plain with what comes in the kit or you can fancy it up a bit like I did.

To make the Famous Fudge recipe from Carnation all you need is a couple of tablespoons of butter and NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Famous Fudge Kit.

If you want to dip the fudge in chocolate after it has set up you will also need chocolate chips or candy melts and whatever toppings you like.

I had a bunch of stuff on hand already to use as toppings like chopped pecans, Nestle holiday baking bits, crushed WONKA® SWEETARTS® Candy Canes (for the kids) and peppermint baking bits.

When I trimmed off the edges of my batch of fudge I chopped up the pieces and mixed them with some red and green candy pieces for another topping.

I also chopped up some of the white chocolate peppermint bark I made the other day to use as another topping.

You can get pretty creative when it comes to toppings.

You could use any type of cookie you have on hand, peanuts, candy bars or candy canes as long as you crush or chop it up fine.

How To Make Fudge

Line an 8x8 inch pan with aluminum foil or parchment paper.

Cook theNESTLÉ® CARNATION® Famous Fudge following the directions on the box.

Allow the fudge to set up for at least 2 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.

If you are not planning to dip your fudge pieces in melted chocolate but would still like to add a topping you can sprinkle your topping of choice over the top of the pan of fudge when you first spread it in the pan and push down lightly so it sticks to the top of the soft fudge.

Lift the fudge from the pan and cut it into small squares.

I added a handful of red and green candy to my pot of fudge but they melted leaving some streaks of color.

Next time I will let the fudge cool a little but I like the festive look it gave to the fudge.

Chocolate Dipped Fudge

To dip the fudge in a chocolate coating you will need 2 bags of candy melts in your choice of colors.

For my fudge I used three colors; red, green and light cocoa. Chocolate chips will work as well but I use candy melts for all my dipping.

Candy melts are so much easier to work with then chocolate chips.

For each color/bowl of candy melts you will also need about 1 tablespoon of a solid shortening.

Melt the candy melts and shortening in the microwave until there are just a few piece of candy melts left.

Remove from the microwave and stir until all lumps have melted.

Dip each piece of fudge into the melted chocolate. Sprinkle your topping on and place on a cookie sheet that has been lined with parchment paper.

For a more detailed description of how I learned the secret to how to dip anything in melted chocolate you can check out my Secret to dipping anything in Chocolate post.

Once the candy coating has hardened you can trim off some of the extra chocolate from along the edges of each piece of fudge.

Package some of the fudge in holiday treat boxes and share with your friends and family.

This is such a cute way to dress up pieces of fudge. I have to try this. I'd love it if you shared this at Holiday Best at Tumbleweed Contessa.
