Instant Pot Brussels Sprouts Recipe

Instant Pot Brussels Sprouts with bacon are mini cabbages infused with the delicate flavor of bacon and onion. Pressure cooked fresh Brussels Sprouts are tender and delicious. This easy holiday side dish recipe is done in minutes.

Ingredients  

  • 4 slices bacon (diced)
  • ¼ cup diced onion
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 lbs Brussels Sprouts (ends trimmed and any bruised leaves removed and cut in half)

Instructions 

  • Turn the Instant Pot saute setting on, add the diced bacon to the insert and saute the bacon until crispy.
  • Add the onions, salt and ground pepper to the Instant Pot and saute until the onion is translucent. Turn the saute setting off.
  • Add the vegetable or chicken broth to the Instant Pot and mix to combine the bacon, onions and salt and pepper. Add the Brussels Sprouts to the Instant Pot and toss to coat with the bacon pieces.
  • Place the lid on the Instant Pot making sure it is locked into place. Set the instant pot valve to the sealing position.
  • Push the manual button and set the timer for 3 minutes.
  • When the Instant Pot beeps notifying you that it has finished pressure steam cooking the Brussels sprouts allow the steam to release naturally for 2 minutes.
  • Use the handle of a long spoon to push the pressure valve to the open position. Allow the steam to release.
  • Carefully open the lid of the Instant Pot. Transfer the Brussel Sprouts to a serving bowl to serve.

Recipe Expert Tips

  • Cut the larger Brussel Sprouts in half so they cook evenly.
  • You can use vegetable stock, chicken broth or water for the liquid.
  • Do not overcook the Brussels Sprouts or they will be mushy. 3 minutes pressure cooking with a 2-minute natural release of the steam is the perfect amount of time to cook 2 to 3 lbs. of fresh Brussels Sprouts.
