Apple Fritter Casserole Recipe

Apple Fritter Casserole is a delightful twist on the classic bakery treat! Packed with tender chunks of apple pieces, apple pie filling and fluffy tender layers of cinnamon roll-flavored dough, and a sweet glaze drizzled over the top, it’s the perfect dish for breakfast, brunch, holiday morning or even dessert. Easy to prepare and bursting with flavor, this breakfast casserole is sure to be a crowd-pleaser for any occasion.

Ingredients  

  • 2 cans Grands Cinnamon Rolls (17.5 oz. cans)
  • 1 can apple pie filling (21 oz. can)
  • ½ cup butter (melted)
  • cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 medium apples (peeled, cored, and diced)

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 375 °F. Grease a 9x13 inch casserole dish.
  • Open the cinnamon roll can and set the icing aside until needed.
  • Separate each cinnamon roll. Cut each cinnamon roll into bite size pieces and place into a mixing bowl.
  • Open the can of apple pie filling. Using a sharp knife slice through the apple slices in the can cutting them into bite size pieces. Or make my Instant Pot Cinnamon Apples and use in place of the apple pie filling.
  • Combine the apple pie filling, brown sugar, melted butter, and ground cinnamon in a large mixing bowl. Toss together until all the cinnamon roll pieces are coated. Pour into the greased 9 x 13 inch casserole dish.
  • Scatter the diced apple pieces over the top and sprinkle with cinnamon.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 60 minutes or until the center is cooked through and the cinnamon roll pieces are no longer doughy. The top should be golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and cool 5 minutes. Drizzle the reserved glaze over the top before serving.
  • Scoop each serving into a bowl while warm and serve.

Recipe Expert Tips

  • Use the correct size of cinnamon rolls.
  • Light or dark brown sugar may be used.
  • Canned, homemade apple pie filling or my Instant Pot Cinnamon Apples can be used.
  • When testing to see of the cinnamon dough pieces are cooked through you should check a couple of pieces out of the center. The cooking time may vary depending on your personal oven.
