Instructions

Prep the Jalapeno Peppers

  • Use caution when handling hot peppers. Remember to wear gloves to protect your hands and eyes from the Capsaicin
  • Wash your fresh unblemished jalapenos thoroughly with cold water and pat them dry.
  • Cut off the stem end and slice each pepper into thin, uniform pieces (about ⅛ to ¼ inch thick). Remove the seeds if desired for a milder heat level.

Dehydrating Jalapenos

  • Arrange the jalapeno slices in a single layer on the dehydrator trays.
  • Set your food dehydrator to 135°F (57°C) the recommend temperature to dehydrate jalapenos and most other vegetables.
  • Let the jalapenos dehydrate for 4-8 hours or until crispy. The exact time may vary depending on the size of the slices and the efficiency of your dehydrator. Once fully dehydrated, the jalapenos should feel dry to the touch and be brittle and crisp.
  • Before storing your dried peppers, make sure to condition them. This process involves placing the dehydrated vegetables in a large container, shaking it daily for a week to distribute any remaining moisture evenly.
  • Place the dehydrated and conditioned jalapenos in an airtight storage container.
  • Label your containers with the date of dehydration and store the container in a cool, dark, and dry place to maintain their quality and longevity.

Recipe Expert Tips

  • Always wear gloves when handling hot peppers.
  • Make sure to slice your jalapenos evenly to ensure consistent drying.
  • Don't rush the process. Proper dehydration takes time but is worth the wait.
  • To speed up the process, you can cut the peppers into smaller pieces or remove the seeds.
  • Stay organized and keep track of which batch of jalapenos is being dehydrated for what purpose. Label your containers accordingly.
  • Remember to label your containers with the date of dehydration for reference.
  • Jalapeno powder is a great way to add a spicy kick to your dishes. Just make sure you wear a protective mask and eye gear to protect yourself from the fine powder that will burn the eyes, nose and mouth.
