Taco Bell’s new Cantina Steak Burrito

Yesterday I stopped by my local Taco Bell restaurant with my two daughters and granddaughter Addison to sample the new Cantina Steak Burrito created by Chef Lorena Garcia for the new Cantina Bell Menu.

Taco Bell is one of our favorite fast food restaurants  We don’t get to eat there often because we do not have one conveniently located around the corner. It is down town and usually when we are down that way we are out doing something and usually in a hurry to get back home because we have to pick up a child or meet a school bus. 

The last time we had Taco Bell was about a month ago and we hit the drive through. It’s been a good while since I had the time to go inside to sit down and eat. This time I made sure we had time.

 I was very impressed because since my last sit down meal at this Taco Bell location they had totally remodeled, updated the colors and had some awesome art work hanging on the walls. It has a much more latino feel to it now which is a great compliment to the Cantina menu items.

The store was clean, the staff helpful and curtious. We just missed the lunch rush so we didn’t have a problem finding a seat where we could pull up a high chair for my granddaughter which can sometimes be an issue when a restaurant is packed and busy with the lunch crowd.

The new Cantina Steak Burrito can be ordered by itself or can be turned into a “meal” with the option of two sides , crispy tortilla chips and a drink. I decided to get the meal so I could sample a few of the sides. The Cantina Steak Burrito has these same sides included in the the burrito filling but I wanted to taste them on their own.

The side options are savory guacamole made from real Hass avocados, roasted corn & pepper salsa, or delicious, freshly prepared pico de gallo.

I decided to go with the guacamole and roasted corn & pepper salsa with a side of sour cream.

The extra container is a side of tomatoes for one of my daughters. They were not really that pale in color. The lighting and paint colors in the restaurant was not the greatest for taking photographs and when I was trying to edit some of the red out of my photograph it really made the color of the chopped tomatoes very pale.

If you take a look at the picture of my Cantina Burrito and the one from the Taco Bell website you will see that the ingredients inside my burrito don’t actually look the same.  The Taco Bell ad photo looks much brighter and packed full of fresh ingredients. The ingredients are in the burrito I ordered they are just not mixed together in the same way.  They were layered instead of mixed together.

When I was checking out the ingredient list on the website  I was worried that the  creamy cilantro dressing would overwhelm the flavor of the rest of the ingredients. I am not a big cilantro fan. I can tolerate a small amount of it but if it is overdone it will ruin the rest of the flavors for me. I was very happy that the cilantro flavor was just right. I tasted it but it wasn’t overwhelming.

My favorite part of the burrito was the steak. The citrus-herb marinated steak has a great flavor and is very tender. The burrito is huge and very filling. I loved the flavor combinations but would have liked it more if it had more of the roasted corn & pepper salsa and pico de gallo in the burrito filling. 

 I was very satisfied and enjoyed the new Cantina Steak Burrito. I will definitely eat it again and would recommend it.

The Cantina Steak Buritto is great for lunch and filling enough to be enjoyed as a dinner.
