In this country there are many families struggling just to make ends meet. At this time of year buying school supplies can be a burden.

Elmer’s and Champions for Kids have teamed up for the #BagItForward SIMPLE Service project.

What is a SIMPLE Service Project?

SIMPLE Service Projects are simple ways for people to help children in their communities.

Every SIMPLE Service Project has 4 basic steps:

  • GATHER your friends, family, and co-workers.
  • LEARN about the needs of children in your community.
  • GIVE items to help kids enjoy happier and healthier lives.
  • SHARE your story with us to inspire others.
Champion For Kids has a mission. They want you to get involved.

The Goal

Champions for Kids works to mobilize MILLIONS of people by providing training and resources to improve the lives of children in communities across America and beyond. Our goal is to mobilize 20 Million people by 2020.

20M People by 2020: Help us exceed this goal! Will you be ONE OF MILLIONS?

Local Need

On July 29th this headline ran in our local paper: Lee County sees massive demand for school supplies at Fort Myers event.

This is the 13th year The Big Backpack event has been held to help local families with back to school supplies.

People started lining up at 2:30 am. Estimates were that 15,000 people showed up for a free backpack filled with about $30 worth of school supplies. The event only had enough backpacks for about 2,500 children.

Obviously there is a huge need for school supply assistance for families in my area.

If your a teacher, know a teacher or do any school volunteering you know that once a student is in the class room it is up to the teacher to make sure that each of his or hers students has the proper school supplies so they can participate in the class. Without donations the teacher must pay for the supplies themselves.

I am happy to say that this year I will be donating a basket full of school supplies to a teacher at my granddaughters elementary school for the #BagItForward Help Them Learn! SIMPLE Service project for #Champions4Kids. You can see some pictures of my shopping trip and more of my purchases in my Google+ Album.

Also included in the Back To School Supply Kit is a coupon booklet with over $35 in coupons to help cut the cost of any future purchases.

Even if you can’t purchase a back to school kit pick up a few extra back to school supplies the next time you are shopping. Send them into school with your own child or drop them off at a school of your choice. Any donation that you can make would be very appreciated.
